Quick Glance
Device Type: Cable
Strengths: Allows 1080p for HD DVDs Looks better than component cables
Weakness: None
I purchased an Xbox 360 awhile ago, prior to the release of all Xbox 360s having built-in HDMI ports. I also have a TV that can accept 1080p over component, so I thought I was good to go for HD-DVDs. BIG MISTAKE!! For some reason, HD DVDs will only output at 720p/1080i with the included component cables that Microsoft provides. So, for 1080p HD DVDs on my Sharp 1080p TV, I had three options-...
Strengths: Can use a computer LCD as a cheap hi-def output for your Xbox 360. It allows you (as well as the component cables or HDMI if you have the elite) to achieve the highest resolution possible, 1080p
Weakness: No 16:10 monitor support!
If you have a LCD monitor 22" or greater and have been playing XBOX 360 on an old CRT this will make a CONSIDERABLE difference in how your games look! In fact, rather than drop $500+ for a 32" or bigger HDTV, you can pick up an affordable 22" or 24" lcd computer monitor (which have been dropping in price lately) and play your games in widescreen and high def. The negative of this, (and it's a BIG...
Strengths: 1080p through VGA
Weakness: Color washed out
I bought the Xbox 360 VGA cable to see if it gives me better picture than the component HD cable. Well, not really. They both do 1080p. The component cable has deep and saturated color whereas the VGA cable has a washed out color. To make it usable, you need to turn the brightness down, so that it's less washed out. Overall, you need this cable if you have a PC monitor that only takes VGA. Or if...
Strengths: 1080p, Upscale DVDs, Better Picture Quality than Component
Weakness: Price
XBOX 360 VGA HD AV cable is a high definition connection for the XBOX 360. Since the spring 2007 Xbox 360 dashboard update the VGA cables became better than the component cables in quality. Just make sure if you have a PC monitor to switch the 360 video settings to expanded mode. The VGA cables can also upscale DVDs to any resolution listed in the 360 dashboard. Not until recently were these...
Strengths: VGA output
Weakness: Doesn't support 1680x1050 (my default resolution), but this is 16:10, so it's expected. I think the 360 is only made for 16:9.
I can't really comment too much about this product because by coincidence my 360 RRoDed shortly after I started using this thing. Don't worry, I'm sure it's unrelated. Anyway, from what I can tell, the main positive is that you can use a superior connection (VGA) on the older systems (ones that don't have HDMI). Namely, you can output 1080p. I've got to say, my eyes have started hurting after a...
Strengths: Clear View of the Xbox 360 Content; Uses 1080p to Display in 1920x1080 Resolution; Works with My LCD Monitor; Easy to Install and Use; Comes with RCA Components to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Converter
Weakness: Does not come with 3.5mm Stereo Jack to 3.5mm Stereo Jack Converter; Does not come with VGA to DVI Converter
I have the Microsoft Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable connected to my Computer LCD Monitor. It shows a clear view of my Xbox 360 content by using 1080p to display in 1920x1080 HD resolution. This cable has the flexible ability to display not only in 1080p but also in 480p, 720p, and 1080i. It supports Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound output, and because this cable is 8-foot long and shielded, it is very...
Strengths: Enables use of computer monitor to play Xbox 360
Weakness: With LCD TV, component connections look better
This cable is a blessing for people who do not have expensive High definition televisions, but still want to enjoy the awesome graphics capability of Xbox 360. Using this cable you can connect your 360 to any PC monitor with VGA connection. And the graphics look really good. Also this cable is capable of doing up to 1080p in high definition. I wish other game consoles follow this path too so you...
Strengths: connects my xbox to my monitor with vga input, and rca sound
Weakness: no rca to 3.5 mm sound converter included
the official Microsoft vga cable includes an rca component to 3.5mm sound converter y cable, and this one did not. it never was advertised explicitly that it did, but it would have been nice to know that i was purchasing only this cable.
Strengths: Will let you see DVDs upscaled on your HD TV.
Weakness: Won't be of much use if your TV doesn't have a VGA jack on it. Wouldn't be necessary at all if Microsoft had bothered to design HDMI connectivity into the Xbox 360---a big oversight if you ask me
I had one goal---to use my Xbox 360 as an upscaling DVD player. It does upscale disks...but only via the VGA hookup that this cable provides. Quite a stupid arrangement if you ask me, as there are certainly lot of DVD players out there that can upscale over ordinary component cables nowadays. It works, and the upscaling looks pretty good on my 42" LCD. Is it a better upscaler than the TV itself?...
Allows the Xbox 360 to connect to computer monitors and HDTVs with VGA input. This is useful for people who want an HD image but dont have an HDTV as they can play their games on their computer monitor. However, this adapter does not support HDCP and thus protected HD footage is not supported. ... PROS: (1) minimal ghosting or blur, good screen updating (2) installation is pretty simple, just...

Don't have a 360 Elite? Get VGA!
Strengths: Clear Crisp Picture, Allows 1080p for HD-DVD's, Saves you a component port.
Weakness: Must have a VGA port.
I just recently bought a 1080p monitor and noticed that my HD-DVDs were in 1080i and not 1080p. I soon found out that if you want your movies to play in 1080p I would need to drop antoher $470 to get a 360 elite to have HDMI. I read that through the VGA port this would be possible to play my movies in 1080p. I shelled out 40 bucks for the VGA cable and was impressed. The movies were crisp and...
