Strengths: Large environment that's perfect for skate boarding; No load times while skating; "Flickit" control system and game engine feel natural; Solid soundtrack
Weakness: Frustratingly tough and inconsistent difficulty level; Retrying a task can have lengthy load times; Obvious advertising
While the Tony Hawk series of skate boarding video games has essentially created the genre, Electronic Art's skate looks to be a worthy competitor. Instead of focusing on outrageous tricks, simplified controls, and general mayhem, skate takes things down a notch, and focuses on being realistic. The game uses a control scheme called "Flickit" that uses the left analog stick to control your body,...
Strengths: A good alternative to Tony Hawk, great graphics, great soundtrack.
Weakness: Lacks the humor/familiarity of the Tony Hawk games, can be frustrating.
I have grown tired of the Tony Hawk series. Like Madden, every fall means a new Tony Hawk game. Luckily, EA Sports has created their own take on skateboarding, focusing more on the physics and "realism" rather than having you deal with Bam Margera and his "wacky" "antics". The game has reinvented the genre, giving it a much needed kick in the pants.
Strengths: Outstanding control and "sandbox" gameplay. Decent graphics and big environments. Good career mode. Unique game that redesigns the age old Tony Hawk formula.
Weakness: Too much product placement. Graphics aren't exactly next-gen. Can get repetitive after a couple of days.
I bought this game after reading a lot of rave reviews and watching videos for it (which I normally do since I want to get a good idea before I buy a game). At first I was just expecting a "new" Tony Hawk game but instead found a revolution or evolution to the TH series. Skate is probably one of the most fun "sandbox" games I've played in a long time. It allows you to feel like you're really...
Strengths: More realistic skating, great graphics and sound
Weakness: Some tricks not supported
There is a new skate board game to own and 'Skate' is it. The Tony Hawk games have become old and more unrealistic as time goes on. This game brings some of the realism back with more down-to-earth tricks and controls that feel more like you are actually performing the tricks. The graphics show a real flair that fits the skate attitude and look a lot like the street films of skating. The only...
Strengths: Realistic skating experience
Weakness: Viewpoint (a little too close), pedestrians (who knew they would be one of the most dangerous and infuriating enemies in videogames)
First of all, let me just start by saying that for years I've been a die hard Tony Hawk player. I've loved every game (except the mediocre American Wasteland) and played them to death. That said, I don't know if I can go back after Skate. EA has just done such an amazing job of translating a skateboarding experience into a digital format. Unlike the very arcadey Hawk games, where grind is just...
Strengths: Innovative, Different, Fun
Weakness: Lack Of Tricks.
Skate. welcome to the new world of skateboarding. Skate., created by EA is a new skateboarding video game available the xbox 360 console. This game features an in depth and long story mode that just keeps you wanting to go for your next goal or achievement. I would recommend this game for any fan of skateboarding. Their is also a great online mode for anybody looking to play with friends online....
Strengths: feels natural and more realistic than its competitors, controls are great and fluid, video save feature is nice
Weakness: can't get off the board and walk, could have more tricks, no female skaters (what's up with that?)
Skate is a fantastic and fresh take on the skateboarding genre that has been dominated by the Tony Hawk series until now. The biggest differences lie in the level of realism and the control scheme. Rather than being an over the top affair, where tricks can be formed with simple button presses, skate goes the more realistic approach and it actually feels quite natural. One button for pushing with...
Strengths: Great feeling of achievement
Weakness: May be too demanding on dexterity
This is a completely different game from the Tony Hawk series that most everyone has played. Instead of stringing together a string rapid-fire tricks through button tapping sequences, Skate is reinstilling a sense of respect to the sport. You now control just your body and your feet with the thumbsticks, and any movement on them is passed on to the associate limbs. Because of the dexterity...
Strengths: Graphics, realism
Weakness: Realism
skate for the Microsoft Xbox 360 is the new EA skateboarding sim. This skateboarding game offers realism as opposed to the typically THUG over-the-top style. This is a good and bad things. What makes THUG fun is the power boosts and super charged tricks, while skate offers just the trick with none of the bells and whistles. If you are looking for a realistic skateboarding sim, skate is definitely...
Skate is the first skateboarding game released for next-gen consoles that is not part of the Tony Hawk franchise. EAs developers saw the success of Tony Hawk and felt they could do a better job, or at least appeal to a different segment of the market. Skate takes a simulation approach to skateboarding featuring a brand new kind of control scheme that EA markets as "revolutionary". Look at the...

With Activision’s Tony Hawk Pro Skater, the Birdman asserted himself as the king of the skateboarding genre, decimating all would-be deposers and making it very difficult for anyone to challenge. However, EA has decided to throw their hat into the ring with their own take on the skateboarding genre with their latest extreme sports game, skate. skate is a simple name to say the least, but that...

Skating Sim?
Strengths: As close as you can get to the real deal, amazing graphics, ability to record everything you do and upload it online, play against your frinds online
Weakness: The camera gets real annoying
This is the closest thing to a skating simulator you can imagine. Every trick and grind requires so much accuracy, timing, and skill. It's not like Tony Hawk where you can button mash without worry; the physics in this game are realistic and even jumping over a fire hydrant can prove to be a challenge - but a fun one. Beautiful, realistic graphics, and enough challenges to keep you busy for a...
